The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League was founded in 1969. Since its birth, the junior hockey circuit has seen sever great personalities flourish through it. Each, in their own way, has enriched the history of the League, by surpassing previous records and providing us with memorable highlights. Whether discussing hockey builders like LeBel, Lagace, Robert, Horman, Dumont, Lemoyne, Lapointe, Delage, Drapeau, Dolbec, players or trainers, all have contributed tremendously to the growing success and excellence of junior hockey. Exhibiting their talent, passion and respect for our national sport throughout their brilliant careers, individuals such as Bourque, Locas, Lafleur, Sauve, Savard, Lebeau, Bossy, Hawerchuk, Lafontaine, Lemieux, Roy, Richards, Tanguay, Brodeur, Gagne, Lecavalier, and many others have enthused the millions of fans who have followed and encouraged them.

At its outset, the QMJHL was comprised of 11 teams. They were the Cornwall Royals, Drummondville Rangers, Laval Saints, Quebec Remparts, Rosemont National, Shawinigan Bruins, Sherbrooke Castors, Sorel Eperviers, Saint-Jerome Alouettes, Trois-Riviere Ducs and the Verdun Maple Leafs. Throughtout the years, the QMJHL has continued to expand from its strong roots in Quebec into the Atlantic provinces and the United States. As the League continues to grow and expand, teams continue to strive to maintain the tradition of excellence that the league has set out to achieve from the very beginning.
