2004

  • The St. John's Fog Devils were officially born in December of 2004 when the QMJHL awarded a franchise to St. John's, NL with local businessman Craig and Derm Dobbin being the successful bidders.
  • 2005

  • After months of negotiations with St. John's Sports & Entertainment, over a contract to use Mile One Stadium, never worked out Derm Dobbin announced that the team was on ice for the 2005/06 season leaving many local fans upset. Only a month later operations were put back on wheels as a deal was reached with SJSE and the QMJHL team was ready to begin in the 2005/06 season after all.
  • The team held a fan contest in the local paper "The Telegram" to name the team and Fog Devils was selected as the winning name. In May of 2005 the St. John's Fog Devils truely came to life before 1400 people at Empire Theatres Studio 12 in St. John's as the team logo and jersey's were unveiled to the public.

  • On June 1, 2005 the St. John's Fog Devils entered into the QMJHL Expansion Draft with expansion cousins the Saint John Sea Dogs. St. John's native Scott Brophy was selected the club's first player followed by fellow Newfoundlander Wesley Welcher of Paradise, NL. Other notable players selected in the Expansion Draft were Marty Doyle, Ilia Ejov, Kyle Stanley, Brett Beauchamp, Luke Gallant, Brandon Verge, Pier-Alexandre Poulin, Anthony Pototschnik, Zack Firlotte, Phillipe Côté, Olivier Guilbault, Sébastien Bernier, Rodi Short, and Nicolas Bachand.

  • On June 4, 2005 the St. John's Fog Devils entered their first ever QMJHL Midget Entry Draft where they selected Quebec native Jean-Simon Allard with their 1st Overall pick. Other notable players taken in the draft were Matt Fillier, Josh MacKinnon, Matt Boland, and Pat O'Keefe.

  • The St. John's Fog Devils played their first game in franchise history on September 16, 2005 when they visited the Saint John Sea Dogs at Harbour Station in Saint John, NB. Nicolas Bachand scored the first goal in club history and Brandon Verge backstopped the Fog Devils to a 3-2 victory.

  • The St. John's Fog Devils played their first home game in franchise history on September 23, 2005 in front of a soldout crowd of 6247 against the Lewiston Maineiacs at Mile One Stadium. The team's newest member was unveiled as the team introduced its mascot Scorch. The game went into a shootout with Anthony Pototschnik scoring the game winner as the Fog Devils won the game 3-2.
  • 2006


  • The St. John's Fog Devils wrapped up their first regular season in club history on March 19, 2006 against the Halifax Mooseheads with a 3-2 victory. With the win the Fog Devils finished the season with a 30-34-5-1 record, moving them into second on the All-Time Wins List for a QMJHL First Year Club. The Fog Devils also reached second on the All-Time Attendance List for overall attendance in a season for a QMJHL First Year Club.
  • The St. John's Fog Devils defeated the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in OT on March 25, 2006 to give the club its first ever playoff victory. Wes Welcher of Paradise scored the game winner at the 14:35 mark of overtime to lift the Fog Devils to victory.

  • The St. John's Fog Devils inaugural season came to a hault on April 2, 2006 when the Fog Devils lost 5-1 at the hands of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles and were officially eliminated from the QMJHL playoffs. With the loss, the Fog Devils said a final farewell to first ever captain Scott Brophy, Marty Doyle, and Brandon Verge. All players were overagers and are not eligible to enter the QMJHL next season.

  • At the 2006 QMJHL Entry Draft in Charlottetown, PEI on June 10, 2006, the St. John's Fog Devils selected local Midget talent Luke Adam (7th Overall) and William Beaudoin (15th Overall) with their first round selections. In total the team selected six Newfoundlander's.
  • The St. John's Fog Devils participated in the 2006 CHL Import Draft in late June and selected Mario Kempe (31st Overall) and Joonas Salmi (66th Overall) with the team's selections.

  • The St. John's Fog Devils opened their second season at Mile One Centre on September 15, 2006 in front of a near sellout crowd. Newly named captain Zach Firlotte is seen above taking the ceremonial face-off. The Fog Devils would go on to lose the game by a score of 5-2 but would rebound the following night with a win over the same PEI squad.
  • 2007

  • The St. John's Fog Devils would close out the 2006-07 regular season with a sweep over the Saint John Sea Dogs to finish with a record of 28-36-2-4. The team would qualify for the QMJHL playoffs for the second straight year and would once again be facing the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in the first round.

  • Following a 6-2 loss to the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles at Mile One, the Fog Devils see their season come to a hault as they are swept four games to nothing in the first round of the QMJHL playoffs. The young Fog Devils squad couldn't match the powerhouse Cape Breton team that many had favoured to win the President's Cup. With the loss, the Fog Devils bid farewell to overager's Nicolas Bachand, Tim Spencer, Luke Gallant, and Max Chamberland.

  • At the 2007 QMJHL Entry Draft in Drummondville, the Fog Devils selected Pier-Antoine Dion with their first round selection (7th Overall). Other selections by the Fog Devils included Louis-Marc Aubry, Jake Allen, Olivier Tremblay, Colin MacKinnon, Tyler Williams, Eric Robinson, Sean MacDonald, Sean Logue and Newfoundlanders Patrick Parfrey, Jeff MacRoberts and Donnie Churchill.

  • On June 23, 2007 history was made as TJ Brennan became the first Fog Devil ever to be drafted by an NHL club. TJ was selected 31st Overall by the Buffalo Sabres. Three more Fog Devils were also selected, Mario Kempe 122nd Overall by the Philadelphia Flyers, Jean-Simon Allard 147th Overall by the Buffalo Sabres and Matt Fillier 188th Overall by the LA Kings.
  • With the 12th Overall selection, the Fog Devils selected goaltender Timo Pielmeier at the 2007 CHL Import Draft on June 28, 2007. Pielmeier was selected in the 3rd round by the San Jose Sharks at the 2007 NHL Entry Draft less than a week earlier.
